The SPT-6 Suppository Penetration Test Assembly is used to determine the softening time of 6 samples at the same time and has to be connected to a Pharma Test Tablet Disintegration Instrument PTZAUTO or a PTZS. The SPT-6 Assembly can also be immersed into a suitable water bath. The SPT-6 is made in strict compliance with the monograph of the EP [2.9.22] Apparatus [A]. The Apparatus is placed into a single position Plexiglas water bath. So it is possible to use the SPT-6 in the Tablet Disintegration Apparatus PTZAUTO 1 - 4 and 1EZ - 4EZ as well as in the PTZS.

Automatic Operation
Using the SPT-6 within a PTZ AUTO EZ system the softening time can be detected and reported automatically. Automated Operation - use SPT-6 within the PTZAUTO 1EZ to 4EZ Tablet Disintegration System. The SPT-6 test assembly with its 6 testing positions and its water bath is placed into any position within the PTZAUTO EZ instrument and is connected to the automated time detection electronics by its cable. Select the corresponding test procedure from the Menu of the PTZAUTO EZ to operate the SPT-6. Fill 10 ml of water into the glass tubes. Heat the water to 36.5 ± 0.5˚C. and place one suppository into each tube. Now put the test rod onto the sample. The time is now controlled. As soon as the test rod touches the glass tube bottom the softening time is recorded. If all 6 samples are tested the individual softening time is displayed as well as the statistics. Use a printer which is connected to the PTZAUTO EZ to get a printed report.
Manual Operation
The operation is nearly identical as described before. If the SPT-6 and its water bath is used within a PTZ-S or a PTZ AUTO 1-4. If used with the PTZ AUTO the operator will push the key within the keyboard of the PTZAUTO which corresponds with the position of the sample in which the test rod has touched the glass tube bottom. As soon as all 6 samples are recorded the individual time will be displayed and the statistic is calculated. Use a printer which is connected to the PTZAUTO to get a printed report. If the SPT-6 is used with the PTZS Disintegration Test Apparatus the operator has to record visually the time and calculate any statistic. There will be no automated print-out. The supply scope of the SPT-6 Test Assembly includes a round Plexiglas water bath including tubing connectors to attach the bath to the heating system of the disintegration tester.
